2pm on 25th August 2025 – Assessing the ABC

Trevor Barr AM is the author of five books related to media issues.  He has presented on the ABC’s AM and PM programmes and on Four Corners, and was the media commentator on 3LO on the Andrew Potter and Terrry Lane morning radio programmes for over a decade.  In 2007 he was awarded the Charles Todd medal for “Communicator of the Year”.  He is currently Emeritus Professor of Media at Swinburne University.

The ABC is a widely-respected broadcasting organisation with so many members of the Australian community.  However, it has also been under attack from hostile sources: conservative commentators, advocates of privatisation and critics who allege that it is too ‘biased’.  Why such attacks, from whom, and are they justified?  These issues will be explored with opportunities for audience participation.

Trevor explores how the overall performance of the ABC compares to its private sector counterparts – and what might the ABC be like in the future?

 

Both of these Topics of Interest sessions will be held in the large meeting room at the Yarra Link offices, Cnr Hoddle Street and Warburton Highway, Yarra Junction.
